About the Course

Our eight-week Crisis Planning and Response Management program provides concise and informative insights for professionals who may encounter an unanticipated yet impactful crisis scenario with the potential to negatively affect the essential operations of their organization. Utilizing the COVID-19 pandemic as a model, this program will empower participants with concrete tools and strategies to develop a basic response and continuity plan both before and during a crisis event. The program places particular emphasis on the evolution of threats and the influence of global complexity.

You Will Learn To:

  • Conduct a threat analysis with the goal of identifying the top risks facing a specific organization based upon its unique mission and current level of preparedness
  • Construct a basic crisis management plan within a limited time frame based upon an organization’s complexity, mission, scope, and size
  • Establish a framework of applicable and useful professional resources to assist with future plan development and execution

 

You Will Be Able To:

  1. Explain recent shifts in the modern threat landscape
  2. Describe the operational benefits of developing and maintaining a comprehensive crisis response plan in order to avoid organizational breakdown
  3. Explain multiple strategies to executing a provisional crisis response plan in the midst of an unanticipated event
  4. Earn a certificate of completion from the University of Chicago and become part of the UChicago network

Jill Ramaker is the executive director of the Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy, which provides training for disaster response, Emergency Medical Service (EMS), fire service, hazardous material, law enforcement, and public works personnel, as well as education on crisis leadership, homeland security, and private sector emergency management. Prior to her position at NIPSTA, Ramaker was the inaugural chair of the Regional Disaster Healthcare Coalition in northeastern Illinois and the emergency preparedness coordinator for NorthShore University HealthSystem. She worked for many years as both an emergency department nurse and EMS educator. Ramaker holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois. She also has a Master of Arts degree from the University of Illinois, a Master of Science in Threat and Response Management from the University of Chicago, and a Master of Arts in Legal Studies from the University of Illinois. She holds multiple certifications in business continuity and organizational resilience.
