Terms of Services

Welcome to the University of Chicago Professional Education website. Please read these terms of service (“TOS”) and the Privacy Policy prior to using any portion of the University of Chicago Professional Education website (the “Site”), including accessing any course material, chat rooms, or other electronic services. These TOS and the Privacy Policy are Agreements (the “agreements”) between you and University of Chicago Professional Education. By using the Site, you accept and agree to be legally bound by the Agreements, whether or not you are a registered user. If you do not understand or do not wish to be bound by the terms of the Agreements, you should not use the Site. University of Chicago Professional Education reserves the right to modify these TOS at any time without advance notice. Any changes to these TOS will be effective immediately upon posting on this page, with an updated effective date. By accessing the Site after any changes have been made, you demonstrate your agreement on a prospective basis to the modified TOS and all the changes. Be sure to return to this page periodically to ensure familiarity with the most current version of these TOS.

Terms of Service

1. Definitions

The following definitions apply unless the context requires otherwise:

  • Global Alumni implies the Global Alumni environment and includes the globalalumni.org website and the Global Alumni online learning platform.
  • Program enrollment is personal and non-transferable.
  • The University of Chicago refers to the University of Chicago itself and includes the University of Chicago Professional Education.
  • The University of Chicago operates through the University of Chicago Professional Education programs.
  • Enrolling in a course means taking a University of Chicago course offered by Global Alumni in collaboration with the University of Chicago Professional Education.
  • The website is the Global Alumni online campus, as well as any other website used as part of the course or in collaboration with another program.
  • The content published on the website includes, among others, texts, exams, videos, images, and other teaching materials provided in connection with the course, as well as user publications.
  • The user is the person enrolled in the course who makes use of the online campus.
  • Each user will have a user account created by Global Alumni and which adheres to the terms described.
  • User publications mean all content submitted, posted, or distributed on the website by you and other users, including, among others, all forum posts, wiki pages, notes, questions, comments, videos, and uploaded files.

 


Scope

By registering for a course, you are signing an agreement with Global Alumni and undertake to abide by these terms, which also include the following:

  • Privacy Policy
  • Code of Conduct

2. Registration and payment

  • Restrictions

University of Chicago Professional Education reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to accept or reject any course enrollment.

  • Enrollment process

Unless otherwise agreed upon with Global Alumni, you must register for the course in which you are enrolled at least one day before the start of the course. Please bear in mind that once the registration period has closed, any cancellations or late registrations are not guaranteed.

  •  Payment
  1. The payment notification process is carried out by Global Alumni. You will be redirected to a secure website to complete your payment transaction.
  2. Once your payment transaction has been completed, within twenty-four to forty-eight hours, you will receive confirmation via email of your enrollment. Please keep this email among your documents because you may need it for future requests related to this course.
  3. If you are unable to pay through any of the platforms set up for this purpose, please contact Global Alumni at the following email address: admissions@online.professional.uchicago.edu . You will be provided with the information needed to make payment via bank transfer.
  • Payment in installments for a course
  1. Once payment of the first installment, equivalent to 65% of the total amount, has been made, the User will receive their credentials for accessing the virtual campus platform.
  2. Payment of the second installment, equivalent to 35% of the total cost of the program, must be made within twenty-one days of the start date of the program.
  3. If confirmation of payment of the second installment is not received, the User will not be able to continue with the program, and their access credentials will be blocked, disabling their access to the platform and its contents. In this case, the User will not be able to claim reimbursement of the amount of the first installment paid.
  4. Once payment of the first installment has been confirmed, there is no possibility of a refund for the program and cohort in progress.
  • Payment in installments for a certificate program
  1. Once payment of the first installment, equivalent to 40% of the total amount, has been made, the User will receive their credentials for accessing the virtual campus platform of their certificate program.
  2. Payment of the second installment, equivalent to 20% of the total cost of the program, must be made within thirty days from the program’s start date.
  3. Payment of the third installment, equivalent to 20% of the total cost of the program, must be made within sixty days from the start date of the program.
  4. Payment of the fourth installment, equivalent to 20% of the total cost of the program, must be made within ninety days from the start date of the program.
  5. If confirmation of payment of the second installment is not received, the User will not be able to continue with the program, and their access credentials will be blocked, disabling their access to the platform and its contents. In this case, the User will not be able to claim reimbursement of the amount of the first installment paid.
  6. Once payment of the first installment has been confirmed, there is no possibility of a refund for the certificate program and cohort in progress.

4. Refund policy

  1. If the participant communicates his or her withdrawal before the start date of the program’s cohort, they will be refunded the amount paid; however, an administrative fee of $300 USD will be deducted from said amount.
  2. Requests for withdrawal and reimbursement must adhere to the following criteria:
  • Notification period: before the start date of the program cohort. Any requests made after this date will not be approved for a refund.  If the participant changed the cohort, no refund will be given after the start date of the original cohort.
  • Communication channel: requests must be made via email to the following address: admissions@online.professional.uchicago.edu

     3.No refunds will be made where requested after the start date of the program’s cohort.

  • Discount codes

Any applicable discount codes must be entered at the time of registration to receive the discount. No discount can be applied after the registration form has been submitted. Offers cannot be combined with additional discounts.

  • Taxes

Unless expressly stated otherwise, the amounts associated with the tuition fee of the academic program do not include sales tax, value-added tax, goods and services tax, and other taxes associated with carrying out the academic program.

  • Admission survey

As part of the admission process, you must provide personal information by completing a compulsory course survey. This information is mandatory to access the course material and will be treated under data protection laws in force.

5. User postings

  • User posting representations and warranties. By submitting or distributing your user postings, you affirm, represent, and warrant (1) that you have the necessary rights, licenses, consents, and/or permissions to reproduce and publish the user postings and to authorize UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION and its users to reproduce, modify, publish, and otherwise use and distribute your user postings in a manner consistent with the licenses granted by you below, and (2) that neither your submission of your user postings nor the exercise of the licenses granted below will infringe or violate the rights of any third party. You, and not UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION, are solely responsible for your user postings and the consequences of posting or publishing them.

 

  • License granted to UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION. By submitting or distributing your user postings, you hereby grant to UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION a worldwide, non-exclusive, transferable, assignable, sub-licensable, fully paid-up, royalty-free, perpetual, and irrevocable right and license to host, transfer, display, perform, reproduce, modify, distribute, redistribute, relicense, and otherwise use, make available, and exploit your user postings, in whole or in part, in any form and in any media formats and through any media channels (now known or hereafter developed).

 

  • License granted to UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION users. By submitting or distributing your user postings, you hereby grant to each user of the Site a non-exclusive license to access and use your user postings in connection with their use of the Site for their own personal purposes.

6. User account and website

  • Account information

To take part in the course, you must set up a user account and:

  1. Provide the required, current, and truthful information
  2. Protect your user account credentials and any other credentials from another course. It is forbidden to share or provide your credentials to other people or third parties.
  3. Refrain from sharing under any circumstances access to your user account or user information or the website with anyone.
  4. Please refer to the privacy policy for more information.
  • Proper use of the website

Use of the website must be made under the following terms:

  1. Review the mandatory privacy policy and code of conduct.
  2. All national, local, state, and international laws, rules, and regulations, including copyright laws, must be complied with.
  3. Any regulations or laws concerning the dissemination and transmission of data from the country where you reside, as well as the export control laws of the United States.

7. Certification

  • Once you have successfully completed your course, you will receive a digital certificate from the University of Chicago. This certificate is an official document that is digitally signed and certified by the University of Chicago.

8. Trademarks and Copyright

  • University of Chicago

The “University of Chicago” names, logos, and seals are registered trademarks.

It is strictly forbidden to make any changes without the prior written consent of the University of Chicago. Their use, whether accidental or deliberate, for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited.

  • Other

All trademarks that are not owned by the University of Chicago and which appear on the website or through the services available on the website, including trademarks owned by Global Alumni, are the property of their respective owners.

Use of these brands may not be construed as a concession. Any license or right of use must have the written permission of its owner. 

  • Copyright Infringement

Copyright owners who believe that their material has been violated on the website should contact the designated copyright agent at the following email address: admissions@online.professional.uchicago.edu

The notification must include:

  1. Identification of the work or work in violation of the copyright policy; or, where appropriate, a representative list.
  2. Identification of the material that is violating the copyright policy, attaching sufficient information to locate it, such as an URL, IP address, or computer name, among others.
  3. Contact information (email address and phone number).
  4. Signed declaration claiming the use of unauthorized material by the copyright owner or authorized individual.
  • Statement of Liability and Indemnification

You agree to defend, hold harmless, and indemnify the University of Chicago and Global Alumni from and against any third-party complaints, claims, losses, expenses, damages, or costs (including an attorney’s fees and costs) arising out of, derived from, or relating to:

  1. Use of the website
  2. Failure to comply with any of these terms
  3. Copyright or trademark infringement.

 

  • Disclaimer
  1. You use the website, content, and services obtained from or through the website at your own risk.
  2. You access or download information, materials, or information through the website or any referenced site at your own discretion and risk.
  3. You are fully responsible for any damage to your property (including your computer system) or loss of data resulting from a download or the use of such material or information, unless expressly stated otherwise by the University of Chicago or Global Alumni.
  • Links to other websites

The website may include hyperlinks to web pages managed by third parties. You must take into account the following:

  1. You access third-party sites at your own risk.
  2. The University of Chicago and Global Alumni are not responsible for and do not routinely examine, approve, review, or endorse the contents or uses of any of the products and services that may be offered on the other websites.
  •  Without guarantee

The University of Chicago and Global Alumni:

    1. Provide the website and any information, content, or services available on or through the website on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without a guarantee of any kind (express, implied, or otherwise), including, but not limited to, implied trade guarantees, suitability for a particular purpose, availability, and non-infringement, except to the extent that such implied guarantees cannot be disclaimed under applicable law.
    2. Do not guarantee that the website will operate uninterruptedly or without margin for error, that the site is free from viruses or other harmful components, or that the course or content provided will meet your needs or expectations.
    3. Do not provide a guarantee regarding the suitability, complexity, or quality of the website or any content or course, nor of the availability of the contents.
    4. Are not responsible for any loss or damage, whether current or temporary, arising out of or related to these terms, your use of the website, your allocation of material on the website, your reliance on information obtained from or through the website, regardless of whether your complaint is based on contract, crime, statute, or other law.
    5. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, are not liable for any direct or indirect punitive, special, exemplary, or incidental damages or consequences, however foreseeable or unforeseeable, and even where intentional or negligent (including, but not limited to, complaints of defamation, errors, loss of profits, loss of data, or interruptions in the availability of information).

9. Others

  • Cession

Global Alumni may manage any rights or obligations under these terms. The transfer of individual rights to third parties is prohibited.

  • Total agreement

These terms contain the terms of the contract between you and Global Alumni. It supersedes any prior conduct or agreements made between you and Global Alumni in connection with the courses or any point of these conditions.

  • Relinquishment

The delay or non-exercise of these rights, power, or recourse will be understood as a waiver thereof. The partial exercise of these rights does not impede the exercise of another right. The relinquishment of rights will not be binding if not received in writing.

  •  Liability

The illegality, invalidity, or unenforceability of a provision of these terms under any law shall not affect the legality, validity, or enforceability of that provision under another law or the legality, validity, or enforceability of another provision.

  •  Modification

Global Alumni reserves the right to modify these terms at any time without notice. Any changes will be immediately effective from the time they are published on the website. Access to the website after any changes have been made will signify your consent to the modified terms.

  •  Rights of third parties

The University of Chicago is the third-party beneficiary of these terms. Each of them can be applied directly to the interested parties.

  • Applicable law and jurisdiction

This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Florida in the United States of America, and you subscribe to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Florida.

 

ANNEX
Code of Conduct

Teamwork is a key factor for success. We will go further together than each on his or her own.

We strongly encourage you to endeavor to always collaborate and work as a team and to share your ideas and questions freely with others. To this end, it is very important to accept and comply with basic rules of conduct aimed at facilitating the development of educational activities in an environment of complete, mutual trust.

In this regard, we remind you that when you in enroll in this program you understand and agree to the following:

  • Course completion and registration is personal and non-transferable. You shall not allow a third party to access the course with your user credentials.
  • You shall not submit any work or material that is not of your authorship. The use and citation of sources is mandatory.
  • The activities and materials you submit are the product of your own work, and the use and citation of sources is mandatory.
  • All activities and materials must be original and prepared exclusively by you or in collaboration with colleagues from your group enrolled in the same program.
  • You shall carry out individual exams or tests without the help of third parties. No questions or exams are to be shared with any classmates.
  • You shall not publish any course material or activity outside the platform.
  • You shall not engage in any dishonest acts over the course of carrying out questions or exams.
  • You shall encourage ethical conduct and do your best to get others to collaborate accordingly.
